Experience: Beginner to Intermediate
This is the perfect class for the young actor, the first time performer, or a student has performed but never had formal acting training. Through game play and fun exercises, students will learn a variety of acting strategies and essential skills for stage, all while exploring story and character. In addition, students will be exposed to many aspects of stage performance and gain an understanding of theater terminology. This winter session will focus on creating scenes in small groups to be presented to family and friends on the final day.
Experience - Beginner to Advance
Learn the freedom of acting without a net, while expanding on your creativity, relying on your natural instincts and just plain having fun! Improv develops flexibility in performance and teaches students to work from the top of their brains, while trusting their fellow performers and working in agreement with cast mates. Students will enjoy games and exercises similar to what is seen amongst top sketch and comedic improv troops. We will also explore dramatic forms of improv.
Students can enroll in multiple sessions as skills build on each other.

Auditioning, both with cold readings and monologues, and song is a skill that all actors must master, but many just don’t get. This workshop will prepare you to professionally approach any audition from the moment you enter the room.

Modern rap and Shakespeare go hand in hand. What?! Yup! William Shakespeare is one of the most prolific playwrights of all time and his work influences modern theater in so many ways. But students struggle to understand the complexity and context of his writings. In this class we will break down the works of Shakespeare while applying it to contemporary prose, music rhythms and themes in this very fun approach.

This class focuses primarily on ensemble work with group numbers and scenes in musical theatre. Practice integrating acting, singing and movement skills while preparing to perform a showcase of musical numbers, scenes and acting exercises for family and friends on the final class.
This class will focus on the critical (but often over looked and under practiced) skills for young actors. We will learning how to work with a scene partner, how to analyze text, and how to apply the essential skills of listening and reacting (dialouge can be one of the least important things you do!) The basics and terminology of scene study and script analysis are introduced, then more fully explained, defined and practiced. Scene Works provides each student with a comprehensive set of tools and techniques to help young actors make specific and authentic choices in order to stand out in a performance. You've been in performances, you've taken an Acting Foundations class... now what? This class explores the world of truly studying the art of acting principles, strategies and approaches to teach young students how to make strong choices on stage, play well developed characters and bring authenticity to it all. Learn the technical side of acting in front of the camera, understand angles, distance and performance techniques specific to film. Students will work on camera with copy provided for them and will have the opportunity to review their work, receive feedback and expand their tools in their acting toolbox. Studentswill have the opportunity to see themselves on film and be able to evaluate their own work.

Drop in for only $5! This program is for any level of experience. Come and join us for an informal get together. We will meet other adults who’ve always wanted to try their hand at comedy improv or others who want an opportunity to get back into or practice their skills. We engage in many games and exercises that practice working at the top of your brain, learning to think on your feet, and trusting your instincts.
If you are looking for a more serious commitment or more consistent Improv practice, consider joining our troupe which meets weekly. This troupe also performs locally.

These foundational skills are critical for authentic acting performances but also are of benefit in most areas of our lives. Our most popular adult class is the perfect place to explore your interest in acting, going a greater understanding of the craft or to just hone life skills.
Offered in Levels 1 & 2
LEVEL 2 - Goes deeper into acting strategy and explores character development, the influence of environment on performance and how to stay present in the moment through active listening training. LEVEL 2 to be offered in late Spring 2018.
This class is about honing your acting technique while playing a scene with a partner. We will work on how to create and commit to a story arc, how to apply your skills for maximum performance and how to make strong character choices supported by the text. This class is a favorite amongst attendees and these skills can never be practiced enough.
The actor training methodology developed by Sanford Meisner is taught in some of the finest conservatories and universities across the country, however, outside these venues it is rare to have the opportunity to study this technique. Over the course of two extended sessions, students will be introduced to Meisner’s training system, beginning with his fundamental exercise, known as “repetition.” Despite the short time frame, you will gain a deep understanding of this remarkably organic approach to acting that will have you re-examining what it means to actively listen (both on stage and off) and how to be present and available in each moment.
